‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Moving Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the late director Rob Reiner, who directed her in the hit romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA over the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s extensive filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
