Former Physician Faces Assault Charges Against 38 Patients

Legal authorities report that a ex- physician now faces charges for performing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

The Grave Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

List of Offences

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
