Grief as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.
The reason of the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Police indicated that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the property supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.
Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to find their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to process his death.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."
She appealed to the citizens to refrain from sharing explicit content from the scene, noting this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.
A Multifaceted Career
Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that was broadcast on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying high-level security services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in property management and was involved in building evictions.

His killing has caused national trauma and led to an flood of condolences from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A senior figure said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He spoke his truth fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my actions as a minister. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," the minister added.
A public representative stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will live on".
