Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
