Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
