Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
