The co-creator of Call of Duty, the mind behind the globally famous franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential game designer died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his family, and all those touched by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
